Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has launched more than 1 lakh internships via the All India Council for Technical Education internship portal. He expressed is joy after launching the internship as per the ‘National Education Policy’s’ recommendation of linking academic institutions to industries to be able to provide better opportunities to his students.
He went on to talk about his goals for the internship program and stated “As we prepare the roadmap for India @ 2047, the year India will complete 100 years of independence, we must work together and aim to provide 100 million internship opportunities in the next 2-3 years for boosting employability of youth and building a more productive economy.” He went on to state that providing 1 lakh internships was a welcome beginning and that the industry aims to make the internships available to all.
He went on to tweet that “NEP 2020 emphasises linking industry with academic institutions to make youth future-ready. 1 lakh plus internship opportunities-is a welcome beginning but our academic institutions & industry should aim for providing internship opportunities to all.”
In a series of tweets, he requested the industry to make the internships more diversified in nature. He tweeted “I am happy that the industry today is recognising the need for apprenticeship, skilling and re-skilling”, “I also encourage the companies present here and the industry to diversify internship opportunities, including in humanities and new emerging technologies.”
He went on to request AICTE to link the ‘Academic Bank of credit’ with the internship ecosystem and stated “I also encourage @AICTE_INDIA to find ways to link the internship ecosystem with Academic Bank of Credit and widen the net of internships to make internship & apprenticeship opportunities available for all age groups.”
