It has been over a month now since Deshbandhu College has been without a principal. An opening for the position of principal has been available for the college ever since last year but nobody has been chosen for the post yet.
This, however, does not mean that the college has been without a principal since 2017. There was a temporary acting principal (OSD) but he has not been arriving at the college ever since he gave his resignation letter to the governing body. His resignation has not been accepted by the governing body yet.
The college recommended a panel of three professors for the post of principal but the committee responsible for the selection of the principal rejected all three candidates. According to the rules set by Delhi University, these recommended candidates cannot even act as the temporary principal of the college too.
The resignation by the officially current OSD came after the committee rejected all the candidates for the principal recommended by the college.
According to the professors of Deshbandhu College, ever since the absence of OSD, the college has fallen to a state of malfunction. The students, teachers and professors have loads of pending work.
The teachers have asked Delhi University to take a look at the college teaching staff as there are people who are willing to and are capable of working as the OSD or the Principal as a permanent position.
There are multiple colleges under Delhi University where there is no permanent principal present, but those colleges do have an OSD.
This is a more concerning issue, seeing that the admissions for the upcoming academic year are about to begin from next month and without a principal, that process is going to be hectic for students as well as the college staff.
This is a unique case wherein the college does not have even a temporary working principal and that too for over a month.
