A large number of vacancies are noted in Pune region where as many as 45% of the seats in polytechnic diploma courses are finding less number of takers.
As per the statistics, around 19,109 seats have been filled out of 34,834 seats in 117 colleges.
Assistant Director of DTE (Directorate of Technical Education), Rajendra Gaikwad, Pune region said, “Govt polytechnic colleges have good admissions. The problem only lies with the private and unaided institutions.”
On being asked about the lack of demand for the diploma holders, Gaikwad said, “There is a huge demand for skilful workers. The impediment lies in the inability to produce qualitative workforce by the colleges.”
