Abhay Rangan, 22, CEO of Goodmylk shares his journey in bringing vegan milk to India with Brainfeed Higher Education Plus
Q. What was the purpose of starting your organization Goodmylk?
We started Goodmylk to make plant-based food affordable and accessible in India. Currently, very few products in the plant-based dairy market solve for taste, convenience & price and we seek to enable that.
Q. How unique are your products from your competitors?
We’re the only product in the market solving for taste, convenience and price. We design our products to be perfectly usable in applications and recipes, both domestically and industrially.
Q. How did you manage the funding for your business?
We have raised capital from angel investors.
Q. Please explain the entire process from Sourcing to Distribution?
Sourcing: We source our peanuts and cashews from Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Much of the product quality is really ingredient-dependent. Ingredients need to be and perform at their best if we are to have a product that delivers on our promises.
Manufacturing Facilities: Our production facilities are located in Kolar and Chennai. We have built relationships with quality facilities that understand our mission-driven nature of work. Deep insight into plant-based manufacturing and flawless execution are what converts our ingredients into the magic stuff that Goodmylk is made of.
Processing: Plant-based dairy needs different upstream processes, we use Goodmylk-owned and installed machines at our partner facilities to ensure this step is performed well. People are often surprised that our Mylk is shelf stable, despite it not being in a Tetra Pak carton. We’ve developed a proprietary steaming process that ensures shelf-stability at smaller volumes than conventional UHT processing, allowing us more flexibility with our processes. We use a carefully controlled strain of good bacteria that convert our mylk into the Desi Curd that you love.
Distribution: If you’ve subscribed to our products via our website, you’ve likely met the people behind our delivery service. In addition to availing free delivery and discounting products, a big advantage to our subscription system is that you can actually return the bottles.
