The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and University Grants Commission (UGC) will merge to form a new body to look into the standard of higher education in India.
The name that is likely for the new body is National Higher Education Regulatory Authority (NHERA). NHERA will be have separate sub-bodies called Higher Education Grants Council (HEGC) and Professional Standard Setting Bodies (PSSBs) to look into quality maintenance of the universities.
As quoted by one of the official for reputed media, “PSSB shall uphold the standards of higher-ed in the India through regular checks on academic curriculum, research and faculty.”
Also as per the reports, the new body will identify the regions and the areas that need regular check-ups. Moreover, incentives shall be furbished for the institutions that maintain the high at-par standards.
