Banaras Hindu University (BHU) is offering a new fellowship with the aim of retaining the best of its postgraduate students. According to this new fellowship, which is called the Annie Besant Fellowship, the final year students who are in the top 5 percentile with a minimum CGPA of 8.5, in any postgraduate programmes are eligible to apply.
The selected candidates will receive JRF contingency much like that of CSIR/UGC during their Ph.D programme. Per the criteria of the fellowship, if the candidate qualifies for JRF within one year, the university will provide 5000 rs in addition to the JRF scholarship as an added bonus. If the candidate has not qualified for JRF/NET, then the university will provide fellowship to the student at the same rate as JRF for the first year. It is expected that the student clears JRF the following year.
If the candidate fails to clear JRF from the 2nd year, then the fellowship amount will be reduced by 50%. If the candidate receives PMRF at any stage in during their Ph.D, then the university will not provide a top-up fellowship. The candidates joining the Annie Besant fellowship are expected to complete their Ph.Ds within the given time period of four years.
The scheme has been launched under the Institution of Excellence – BHU programme. The last date to apply for this fellowship is Friday, 5th of August, 2022.
