The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) plans to revise the question paper pattern for Class X and XII exam from 2020. The revision also includes holding vocational subject tests and early declaration of results.
The new exam pattern would test students on their analytical abilities and reduce the scope of rote learning.
A senior Human Resource Development (HRD) ministry official said, “The questions will be more in the nature of problem-solving. There will be more short questions between 1 to 5 marks. The stress would be on probing the critical thinking abilities of students and test actual learning outcomes rather than allow students to score high marks by virtue of rote”.
The CBSE board has also submitted new ‘bylaws’ to the HRD ministry for approval, based on which the focus during affiliation or renewal of schools will be on academic quality of institutions. The board will depend on the reports of recognizing authorities i.e., the respective state education departments for the inspection of infrastructure in the schools.
The Board is thinking to complete all examination in March which can give more time for evaluation and to declare results earlier.
