Nidhi Pant, 25, Co-founder of S4S Technologies, shares how an idea of converting farm losses into value-added products led to the formation of her company
Q. What made you start a company of food preservation? How does the company function?
We were working on a project in university related to food preservation. Then only we decided to start this company. We source the raw material, process, and pack for our clients. They get all services from R&D to production under one roof and that too from the experts of the technology. Our company makes new food processing machines at our own facility to produce best quality processed food.
Q. Can you tell us in brief about various technologies which your company uses?
We make various technologies. One of which we sell to farmers is Solar Conduction Dryer that uses conduction-convection-radiation, all modes of heat transfer to deliver the world’s highest drying efficiency. More than 1,200 farmer cooperatives across 8 countries are using it at the farm level. The other technologies are patented ones which are HaldiTech, SmartDry, and FrostDry.
Q. How does the company work on inventing new food processing machines?
We make machines only for internal use. We started with selling these machines but now we no longer do it. Actually we supply solar dehydrated products from our farmer. We do supply our clients freeze dried, low temperature and low humidity dried products like powders, candies, crisps, chips, etc.

Q. What initiatives are you taking to accomplish the company’s mission of converting post-harvest losses into value-added dehydrated products?
We work for the farmers. We are trying to accomplish it in two ways:
- Private Labeling: We work with a range of our clients to make understand their demands to produce food products that they dream about.
- Contract Processing: Clients can send us the raw material to be dehydrated. We will process it with our best in class dryers to make a high-quality product.
Q. How students have to work to become successful entrepreneurs?
Have an idea, work on it, and look for feasibility. Be compassionate to accomplish your goal without leaving any stone unturned.
