Coventry University Group and Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management (GITAM) have signed a landmark collaboration agreement to promote academic excellence, deepen research partnerships and provide global learning opportunities for students in India and the UK.
This partnership introduces a unique dual degree PhD programme—GITAM’s first with an overseas university and Coventry’s first of its kind in India. The initiative integrates doctoral scholars into a global research ecosystem, enabling joint supervision, access to advanced research facilities, and opportunities for industry engagement in both countries.
The programme is designed to provide students with a world-class academic experience, offering dual accreditation and exposure to international research challenges. Focus areas include clean mobility, climate resilience, advanced health technologies and smart infrastructure. Students will benefit from improved employability prospects through cross-cultural learning and Coventry’s global industry links.
The collaboration also supports faculty development through exchanges, co-authored publications and collaborative grant applications. Over the past 14 months, academic leaders—Professor Carl Perrin of Coventry and Professor KNS Acharya of GITAM—have spearheaded efforts to align research priorities and establish a successful operating model.
The agreement aligns with Coventry University’s global expansion, including its India Hub launched in New Delhi last year. Speaking on the occasion, Professor Richard Dashwood, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research, Coventry University, said, “This collaboration reflects our shared ambition to drive global research with real-world impact.”
GITAM aims to enhance its international research footprint across domains such as agroecology, sustainable water systems, autonomous technologies and healthcare.
This partnership marks a significant stride in UK-India educational ties, opening new frontiers in collaborative innovation and student mobility.
