CUET to only follow class 12 syllabus, may be conducted twice a year from the next academic session: M Jagadesh Kumar
UGC chairman M. Jagadesh Kumar informed the press that CUET (Central Universities Entrance Test) will be conducted twice a year from the upcoming academic session. The NTA had been pondering about the same for quite some time. He went on to claim that the state board students would not be disadvantaged because of the same.
He asserted that CUET will not give an impetus to coaching culture and neither make board examinations peripheral even though class 12 board results will no longer be needed for admission to colleges.
The UGC chairman informed further that the CUET scores will not be restricted to the central universities in the country. Some private colleges have also agreed to admit students based on their CUET results.
Some students raised their concerns over the syllabus CUET was going to follow. The UGC chairman clearly stated that it was only going to follow the class 12 syllabus for the entrance exam. He went on to claim, as UGC was not following the class 11 syllabus, it wouldn’t give a boost to coaching classes.
