Celebrating 25 years of creative impact, Pearl Academy, India’s leading institution in design, fashion, business and media, today hosted Pearl Portfolio 2018. Held at the Delhi/Rajouri campus on May 14, 2018, the event was inaugurated by leading Indian politician Jaya Jaitly. The event saw a large number of students showcasing their masterpieces. Eminent personalities such as Anthony Lopez, Lopez Design; Bishwanath Ganguly, Country Manager, Forever New; Vivek Vaswani, actor, director and producer were present among other distinguished guests.
The two-day event included an exhibition of ingenious projects by students from School of Design. Kisan Mitr- Gyaan ke saath dosti, an interesting project by a Communication Design student, Piyush Grover aimed to educate farmers and overcome their challenges such as lack of access to relevant information, technology, training etc. through a theoretical mobile application.
Hasthaakshar: Cruise ship Interiors, another project by Aishwarya Malhotra, an Interior Design & Styling student showcased the growing importance of designing cruise interiors to promote tourism in India through cruise tourism. A Panel Discussion: Breaking the Silo: Crossing Disciplines in Practice and Education; addressed the need to make design students industry ready by giving them opportunities to learn on internship projects and international exposure. This panel was chaired by – Alex Davis, Alex Davis Studio; Anthony Lopez, Lopez Design; Madhav Raman, Anagram Architects; and Niladri Mukherjee, Glue Design
This event also saw many school students visit the Rajouri Garden campus of Pearl Academy, to take in the visual treat of the design exhibition of the graduating batch of School of Design students as well as attend various relevant and intriguing workshops that were conducted by industry experts and faculty members. The workshops covered school of design, business and media.
The term ‘Luxury’ involves a much wider concept today – it is the chance to experience new routes, find not so predictable solutions. This year, our graduating students from Luxury Brands and Global Luxury Brand Management, presented their dissertation projects at DLF Emporio, Vasant Kunj. From introducing ‘vegan’ as a luxury material to reviving traditional Chanderi weaves, our students had some of the most innovative and sustainable business ideas.
