Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurates the inaugural Skill India Centre in Sambalpur, Odisha -

The Union Minister of Education, Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurated the inaugural Skill India Centre in Sambalpur, Odisha on 20th February 2024. The center has been set up to provide youth with industry-relevant skills and promote socio-economic development.

As per the official statement released, Pradhan emphasized the essential role of skilled workers in propelling India’s advancement in the 21st century. He emphasized the importance of affordable education in empowering youth, stressing the need to democratize access to quality education. Offering cost-effective courses at the center would enable a significant number of youth to participate in the changing job market landscape. The aim is to uplift more than 1200 students through this initiative, enhancing their skill sets and matching them with the requirements of industries.

According to the official statement, Shri Pradhan also highlighted that in line with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of empowering youth with modern skills, the Centre will provide a vast majority of young individuals with employable skills in trades driven by demand. This effort aims to create an industry-ready workforce, foster entrepreneurship, and bolster the skilling ecosystem, serving as a catalyst for prosperity.

The initiative is tailored to enhance the capabilities and knowledge of Yuva Shakti in high-demand trades such as Media & Entertainment, Leather, Tourism & Hospitality, and IT-ITeS. It represents a progressive stride towards establishing an enabling learning environment that equips youth with industry-specific skills through a unique blend of classroom and work-based learning.

According to the official statement, to ensure the smooth execution of the training framework, the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) will appoint a Centre Manager responsible for overseeing the training programs’ implementation. This will ensure compliance with quality standards and the overall operation of the Centre. This pivotal move will create fresh opportunities for individuals to pursue education, acquire new skills, and establish employment connections.
