In a landmark move set to redefine eye care education, Dr Agarwal’s Institute of Optometry (DAIO) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with VIT Chennai. The collaboration aims to integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) into optometry research and training, driving innovation in diagnostic tools and clinical practices.
The MoU was signed by Dr D. Karpagam, Dean of DAIO, and Dr T. Thyagarajan, Pro Vice-Chancellor of VIT Chennai, in the presence of senior dignitaries and faculty from both institutions.
This strategic partnership will enable interdisciplinary research, encourage the publication of joint studies, and foster the development of AI-powered prototypes to advance eye care delivery. DAIO will offer VIT students—particularly from Computer Science, AI, Electronics, Mechanical Engineering, and Mechatronics—exposure to real-world challenges in eye health, leveraging its clinical expertise to support proof-of-concept projects.
Dr Karpagam expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “We believe in the power of cross-disciplinary research. This collaboration bridges healthcare and engineering, offering our students meaningful, real-world projects while supporting innovation and commercialisation pathways.”
The initiative is set to benefit over 400 students across both institutions and will be guided by a joint team of faculty. DAIO, already in collaboration with Loyola-ICAM College of Engineering and Technology, is exploring further alliances to promote interdisciplinary research.
Admissions for DAIO’s Bachelors and Masters programmes in Optometry for the 2025–26 academic year are now open. Interested candidates may contact daio@dragarwal.com or WhatsApp 97890 60444 / 9444444821.
