The University of Essex on February 26, 2024, announced a new health bursary for the Indian Masters students to cover the cost of the United Kingdom’s (UK) immigration health surcharge for the duration of their postgraduate course. The surcharge for the international health bursary has been going up to 766 pounds (£766) each year from February 6, 2024.
The financial support extended by the university would be available to students pursuing Masters, who started their courses in October 2024 or January 2025 and have been in addition to the University’s Academic Excellence Scholarship for Indian residents, which is, worth between 3,000 pounds (£3,000) and 4000 pounds (£4,000).
Vice-Chancellor Professor Anthony Forster said that he decided to launch the international health bursary during his visit to India, to welcome all the Indian students to UK. The university has also set up many other initiatives including preparation programmes, extracurricular opportunities and extensive careers support to ensure Indian students get the most from their studies in the UK.
