Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta has introduced a new course in FinTech and Financial Blockchain. A six-month advanced programme will be available from the present year.
The course is being developed by the faculty of IIM-C and supported by TalentSprint digital platform for professional education. The program is specifically designed for working professionals in banking, financial services, insurance, consulting and technology industries.
The sector is growing in double fold speed from the past five years in India. The market size is expected to reach $2.4 billion by 2020, reveals a NASSCOM study. The growing market size has also led to the dearth of skilled workforce in the sector.
“As India is catching up with the global trend of digital payments and online lending, the need for and penetration of FinTech industry is on the rise. China has established itself as a market leader in the sector surpassing by a huge margin the USA,” says Ashok Banerjee, faculty-in-charge, The Financial Research and Trading Laboratory, IIM-C. “FinTech industry would thrive in an environment where citizens of a country have internet and mobile access.”
FinTech industry has evolved over the years from the mundane digitisation of manual data and back-office processes to the front line role of digital payments and lending,” he adds.
“The sector is poised for mainstream adoption in many countries. It focuses on both the customer and the lender by proposing a novel product delivery method such as online insurance, peer-to-peer lending and developing real-time analytics to rate borrowers,” Banerjee adds.
Course Fee: The fee for this course Rs 3.36 lakh. It will commence in May and will be certified by IIM-C.
