School leaders have been mulling over introducing projects that help in problemsolving skills and infuse creative decisions. Creating a film project could be the answer. It would result in a meaningful experience and a number of students could play a part in different departments of film making.
Students can become creators of content and learn the rudiments of making a film. With modern gadgets available and affordable, the student community can engage in a creative process that would leave a lasting impression.

There are many who spend a lifetime in a city, yet do not know several areas. Students can make a list of unknown facets of the city and unexplored areas and make short films. It entails collecting data which results in reading and researching. Using the camera and editing helps and many would embark on a technical career. Students who wish to write can hone their skills with the help of English Language teachers.
The process of writing helps in several ways, for instance students start to investigate to tell their stories and learn to use the library and the internet to source for content.
Speaking to Brainfeed, P Anuradha Reddy, Convenor, Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) Hyderabad says, “The project aims to discover and document the cultural heritage of Telangana. Students are told to take pictures of artifacts, monuments, forts and natural history and share it with INTACH. Also, we encourage them to shoot films.”
The digital stories are published online and students get an opportunity to share their work with peers and gain experience. Such creative pursuits are critical for the development of emotional intelligence and social learning as well.
How to go about it
Film making process includes writing/research, pre-production, production, post-production and distribution. Form a team of students and divide them into groups. Few would collect data and complete the research. Select a person who has a good voice and communication skills. Those interested in editing and have knowledge could be involved in production and post-production work. Finally, students who have good public relations could be involved in distribution and promotion of the short films, digital stories and projects in various platforms.
