The 14th of November happens to be the most exciting day for children across the country in the school year. On this day, students get special treatment by the school and many students wait for this day throughout the school year.
November 14th is celebrated as Children’s Day commemorating the birth anniversary of the first Indian Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, who was very fond of children. Jawaharlal Nehru is addressed as ‘Chacha Nehru’ by children fondly.
Pandit Nehru had once said that “The children of today will make the India of tomorrow. The way we bring them up will determine the future of the country.”
The idea of marking this day as Children’s Day came up after Nehru’s demise in 1964. Across the world, Universal Children’s day is celebrated on 20th November.
Different schools celebrate Children’s Day in different ways. Schools organize cultural programs, parties, picnics, movie outings, etc.
A lot of contests like essay writing, drawing, poster-making, are organized across the country especially for children by companies, institutions, among others.
