Today is the most auspicious day for the Sikhs all over the world as November 23 marks the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak, who laid the foundation of Sikhism. It is called Gurpurab because “Gur” means Guru or master, and “Purab”, means parv or day in Hindi.
Born to Kalayan Das Mehta and Matta Tripat, Guru Nanak didn’t like the superficial aspects and conventional ideas of religion. He believed that there is only one formless god and a constant remembrance of God, called ‘naamsimran’, is the only way to liberation.
The avant-garde Guru Nanak was way ahead of his time. Let us all “Burn worldly love, rub the ashes and make ink of it, make the heart the pen, the intellect the writer, write that which has no end or limit.”
