Humming bird – It’s a bird known for specialized flying techniques. Mimicking the same, a robot has been developed that uses AI to go to the places where the drones cannot.
The researchers from Purdue University have created flying robots that behave like hummingbirds. The technology leverages machine learning based on various techniques the bird uses naturally every day.
Robot learns from the simulation and understands on how to move around on its own like a hummingbird.
The robot is empowered with flexible flapping wings. Besides, it has also the ability to teach itself new tricks.
Without the presence of natural eyes, the robot senses by touching the surfaces. Each touch alters electrical current that could be traced by the researchers.
“The robot creates a map without seeing its surroundings. This is specifically helpful in a situation when the robot might be searching for victims in a dark place,” shared Xinyan Deng, an Associate Professor, Mechanical Engineering, Purdue.
