Ganesh Bhat is a data science professional with 15+ years of experience in applying data-driven models to automotive and BFS domains. He has applied for 3 patents in the area of AI with the Indian patent office. He also has in-depth experience in analyzing data and developing business insights. In his current role at CEAT Limited where he heads the Digital and Analytics (COE), he is transforming business operations with AI in the areas of recommendation engine, computer vision, and tabular data. Bhat completed his MBA (Global) from S P Jain Center of Management. Bhat loves wildlife photography, reading, and following technology-specific articles and trends.
How does the academic achievement at SP Jain Global, through the program you chose, influence you to construct your career?
I passed the Global MBA program from S P Jain School of Global Management in 2010-2011. I completed my Computer Engineering with Distinction from the University of Mumbai in 2005. Before joining the Global MBA program, I had an industry experience of 4+ years with the likes of Tata Consultancy Services & Infosys where I was responsible for software development. To increase my knowledge & understanding of different subject areas that are important in running a business, I decided to pursue an MBA with a specialization in IT Management. I chose the SP Jain Global MBA program as it was a highly structured and focused 1-year program which helped me in developing skills and abilities in business, IT, and transformation programs.
Post the Global MBA program, I built my experience in consulting and presales, where I utilised all the knowledge I got during the program. It came in handy in identifying customer problems, providing solutions and approaches, suggesting enterprise architecture, migration approaches, and also in recommending the total cost of ownership (TCO) or business benefits that will likely be accrued by implementing the suggested solutions. I gained experience by working with customers in the automotive, and banking and financial services domains, which are key sectors for any economy. I have received many accolades from my customers and management team for my work.
While at SP Jain, I also learned the importance of unlearning and relearning. This helped me pick up new skills like machine/deep learning, python, recommendation systems, computer vision, and analytics by learning them via MOOCs. I now have developed essential skills in AI, and, with the relevant experience, I have delivered key projects that enabled my organization to deliver customer experience through AI.
Professionally, I constantly strive towards becoming a proactive and pre-emptive leader whereas personally, I feel inspired and grateful for the opportunity to learn from an outstanding faculty with whom I would like to remain connected.
Can you brief us about your respective field of work/business?
I currently head the digital and analytics center of excellence (CoE) at CEAT limited where I am responsible for driving digital transformation & smart factory initiatives with artificial intelligence, analytics, change management, customer experience, and design thinking approaches. I have 15+ years of work experience with 10 years in AI and analytics. I have filed for 3 patents with the Indian Patent office in the field of AI. I have recently won the award for 100 most influential AI leaders in India — 2022 by Analytics India Magazine and also the Customer Centricity Award of the Year 2021-2022 in CEAT for an AI project. I have certification from AWS on ‘AWS Machine Learning (ML) Speciality’ and am an AWS Cloud Certified Practitioner in Deep Learning, from the University of San Francisco and the University of Queensland. I also have certification in Machine Learning from Stanford Online.
My day-to-day work includes strategizing, implementing, and adoption of AI projects for enterprise use cases like marketing, sales, service, and supply chain and for smart factory use cases like IoT, machine learning, and Manufacturing Execution System (MES). I have implemented 20+ projects in AI/analytics and has gone through the complete phase of business problem identification to the adoption of projects. I manage a team of 10+ people who have expertise in machine/deep learning and AWS Cloud.
