The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Indore has launched AgriHub, a Center of Excellence (CoE) in collaboration with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). AgriHub is dedicated to sustainable agriculture through Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and Deep Learning (DL). This multi-institutional initiative aims to transform Indian agriculture by driving innovation. AgriHub will serve as a collaborative platform, bringing together researchers, breeders, and farmers to develop cutting-edge solutions for the sector.
By fostering coordination and synergy, AgriHub will maximise resources and expertise to ensure technological advancements directly benefit farmers, NGOs, and other stakeholders. This initiative will address key agricultural challenges such as drought, floods, and low productivity, ultimately reducing losses. AgriHub’s major goals include startup incubation, job creation, patent filings, industry partnerships, student mentorship, and entrepreneurship workshops. Over five years, the project aims to create a self-sustaining ecosystem, ensuring financial and operational stability beyond initial funding.
At the launch of “AgriHub: A Deep Learning & AI/ML Center of Excellence,” S. Krishan, Secretary of the MeitY, emphasised AI, high-performance computing, and big data as game-changers for agriculture. He highlighted startups as key drivers of innovation and urged collaboration with established industries to integrate modern technologies for better yields and profitability. He also stressed the need for rapid adaptation to technological advancements.
IAS officer Sanjay Dubey, Additional Chief Secretary of Science and Technology for Madhya Pradesh, underlined the project’s role in solving agricultural challenges through technology. He reaffirmed the government’s support as a key stakeholder. He also pointed out the strategic significance of establishing the CoE in Madhya Pradesh, a leader in advancing agricultural technologies.
