IIT Kharagpur has launched a certificate programme in order to bring Ph.D. scholars who are associated with industry or academia but are unable to go forward with further research due to lack of opportunities.
Certificate of Excellence in Research (CER) will begin in July with nearly 50 students. The duration will be from between two to six years.
IIT Director Parthapratim Chakrabarti said the purpose of this course was to get hold of the scholars who wish to pursue “post-doctoral research and initiate them to the world of high-end, open-ended research”.
At the end of the course, each candidate has to publish two papers in a “highly-reputable SCI (science citation)-indexed journals”, institute sources added.
“During my interaction, I came across outstanding professionals who are working in industry after completing their Ph.D. and are getting a high salary. But the craving for doing advanced fundamental research has not died down in them. Our aim is to tap this pool and create an ecosystem to push them towards the area of high-end research, which is lacking in India,” the Director said after the launch.
