The Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur and the Indian Navy officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), on 19th march, 2024. This agreement reflects their shared dedication to advancing technology, fostering innovative solutions, and collaborating on research and development efforts. Rear Admiral K Srinivas, Assistant Chief of Materiel (Dockyard & Refit) at Naval Headquarters, and Professor Rintu Banerjee, Dean of Research and Development at IIT Kharagpur, signed the MoU in the presence of Professor Virendra Kumar Tewari, Director of IIT Kharagpur.
The areas of study encompass propulsion systems, systems and controls, instrumentation and sensors, industrial engineering, operational research, nanotechnology, MEMS, hydrodynamic fluid studies, computer-aided design, mechanical system design, surface treatment, acoustics, reliability, quantum computing, quantum mechanics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, big data analytics, mechatronics, robotics, and more.
Additionally, specialized developmental studies will cover Computational Fluid Dynamics for hull appendage interaction, hull sea inlet interaction, aerodynamic/plume trajectory, optimization of ship structure, steel technology, and various other engineering disciplines.
Professor V K Tewari, Director of IIT Kharagpur said that the collaboration aims to foster academic cooperation, enhance scientific understanding of technology related to defense and engage in research areas which are mutually beneficial. It involves undertaking research projects sponsored by the Indian Navy, focusing on topics aligned with the Navy’s interests.
