Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between IIT Kharagpur and Center for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) to set up a Petaflop high-performance computing facility and data center funded under the National Supercomputing Mission. PetaFlop is the estimation of computing power based on the recurrence of numerical calculation that can be done every second.
Setting up of the 1.3 PetaFlop high-performance computing facility and data center is going to change the scene of computation based research work in India, an IIT Kharagpur proclamation said, including that the MoU was signed on March 12.
With the developing significance of high-performance computing in recent research, data protection, healthcare and so forth, such technology as the one being worked at IIT Kharagpur will turn into a core factor in different research areas, the announcement said.
IIT Kharagpur Director Prof P Chakrabarti said the activity will be embraced at the Center for Computational and Data Sciences, situated at the institute campus and large scale computational support will be given to the candidates working on a research-based project and occupied in various territories of national significance.
The technology is hope to come up in the next 3-4 months with the work to be carried in three periods of – ‘ assembling, assembling and manufacturing and design and manufacturing,’ the announcement cited Director General, C-DAC, Dr Hemant Darbari as saying.
