IIT Kharagpur’s Dept of Mining Engineering is launching a new MTech program in Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) in order to promote the safety measures in mining operations. This program is essential for every process industry which is like mining, chemical industry or car manufacturing which deals with production and that involves human resources to enable appropriate training to ensure the quality of life of people, product and process.
This course will completely focus on the subject areas like environmental engineering and management, safety, health and environment that also include legislation and laws.
The department is also going to engage industry professionals who are in the mining, chemical and petroleum industry to take up the short term courses on SHE which will help in the training and retraining of personnel.
Another MTech program in Geo-mechanics for Mineral and Energy Resources will also be launched by the department. This course is the first of its kind degree program in India. Students will be studying the various fundamentals of applied geo-mechanics, the study of the design of underground excavations, geo-numerics, etc.
Both these courses will commence from the July semester. Each of these program intake capacities will be eleven.
The admission for these programs will be through GATE. BTech students who are specialized in mining, civil and petroleum engineering departments can opt for the MTech program in GeoMechanics and the BTech students who are specialized those in mining, civil, petroleum, chemical, mechanical, electrical, production engineering can opt for M.Tech program in Safety, Health and Environment.
