IIT Madras has partnered with the Rekhi Foundation for Happiness to launch the Rekhi Centre of Excellence for the Science of Happiness. This initiative aims to integrate happiness studies into the academic framework, enhancing student well-being and fostering a positive learning environment.
The centre will be housed within the Department of Management Studies (DoMS), focusing on research, education, and practical applications in the field of happiness science. The collaboration seeks to develop courses that cultivate emotional resilience, positivity, and a sense of purpose among students. Additionally, a Mind Lab will provide hands-on learning experiences using advanced tools to deepen the understanding of happiness studies.
The agreement for this partnership was formalised on 24th March, with representatives from IIT Madras and the Rekhi Foundation for Happiness, including Dr. Satinder Singh Rekhi, founder of the foundation, and Prof. Manu Santhanam, Dean (IC&SR), IIT Madras. The event was attended by key faculty members and other stakeholders.
The Rekhi Centre will focus on scientific and philosophical approaches to happiness, promoting innovative methodologies for holistic development. Through this collaboration, IIT Madras aims to set a precedent in education by balancing academic excellence with emotional well-being.
The Rekhi Foundation for Happiness, a not-for-profit organisation, has been instrumental in establishing similar centres worldwide, advocating for the integration of positive psychology into educational institutions.
