IIT Madras, one of the premium institutes in the country is planning to set up its offshore campus in Tanzania in Africa as part of its expansion plans. The institute is also in talks with countries like Nepal and Sri Lanka for offering courses in emerging fields such as AI and data science.
IIT-M is planning to offer both UG and PG courses in its offshore campuses. The institution recently inked a MoU with Kathmandu University in Nepal to jointly offer MTech in energy systems. The IIT council has already prepared a draft report for setting up its offshore campuses and is currently studying the market demand in the countries which have placed the requests.
Earlier IIT Madras had launched interdisciplinary MTech programs for foreign students. Around 60 foreign students have joined such courses; giving much needed exposure to the native students.
