IIT Mandi has announced admissions for its MA in Development Studies, a distinctive two-year programme under the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. This interdisciplinary course provides students with an in-depth understanding of developmental challenges and opportunities in the Himalayan region, integrating theoretical perspectives with hands-on research and fieldwork.
The programme, structured with an 80-credit curriculum, addresses key aspects of development, sustainability, and empowerment, both regionally and globally. Additionally, students can opt for an MA+PhD Dual Degree, enhancing their research expertise.
Beyond academics, IIT Mandi’s School of Humanities and Social Sciences actively contributes to the empowerment of local communities in the Kamand region through various training programmes.
Dr Surya Prakash Upadhyay, Chairperson of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, emphasised the programme’s relevance, stating, “The MA in Development Studies is uniquely designed to provide students with practical exposure to Himalayan development issues. It allows them to undertake research with real-world applications while also facilitating a seamless transition into advanced research through the MA+PhD option.”
Admissions & Eligibility
– Application Deadline: 11 April 2025 (5:30 PM)
– Eligibility: Bachelor’s degree with at least 55% or CGPA of 6.0 (relaxation for reserved categories)
– Admission Process: Online application, followed by a written test and/or interview
– Course Duration & Fee: 2 years, ₹30,000 per semester
