India’s youth represent its most valuable asset, with 47% of the population under 25. However, with 50% of mental health issues emerging by age 14 and 75% by 24, a lack of early intervention threatens the nation’s future. The World Health Organisation (WHO) estimates that untreated mental health disorders could cost India $1.03 trillion by 2030, underscoring the urgent need for systemic change.
To address this crisis, the Mpowering Minds Summit 2025, led by Mrs Neerja Birla, will take place on 26 February 2025 at ITC Grand Central, Mumbai. The summit will unite global leaders, policymakers, and mental health advocates to foster meaningful reforms, eliminate stigma, and integrate mental health education into schools.
Speaking about the initiative, Mrs Neerja Birla, Founder and Chairperson of Aditya Birla Education Trust and Mpower, emphasised the necessity of proactive intervention. “Youth mental health is not just a conversation—it is an urgent call to action. We must move beyond awareness to systemic change that ensures access to care, eradicates stigma, and integrates mental well-being into young lives,” she stated.
The summit will feature discussions on strengthening mental health infrastructure, increasing investment, and expanding the workforce through enhanced training for psychologists and psychiatrists. Additionally, an exclusive Youth Mental Health Research Report will be launched, alongside ten thematic discussions addressing key challenges, solutions, and policy recommendations.
With over 300 distinguished changemakers in attendance, the event aims to foster resilience, create a healthier future, and ultimately drive economic growth by prioritising youth mental well-being.
