How do you plan to achieve ‘learn, earn and return’ goal?
Vinod Gupta Charitable Foundation, is an amalgam of devoted hands and strong minds for providing outstanding quality education to the next generation. The Foundation has its vision of ‘learn, earn and return’ which was given by Dr. G.L. Gupta, father of Vinod Gupta, Founder, VGCF. He had recognized the value of education and how it has changed his life and decided to give all his wealth to charity. As a result, he made education a primary beneficiary for his charitable contributions. Through his foundation, Vinod Gupta Charitable Foundation, he has helped in advance education across fields including: business, science, information technology, communications, law, and wildlife preservation.The Foundation has always enlighten there students to learn, earn money from that learning and return it back to the society in any form.Also,the Foundation provide scholarships to the deserving students, which enable them to pursue their dreams while contributing towards there Society. Setting himself as an example for the students, Vinod Gupta always encourage the students as well as their family to work with an aim of Learn, Earn and Return.
What are your future plans of investments in India?
The total amount invested in VGCF (REC, IIT Kharagpur, Lucknow University etc.) is Rs. 39.50 Cr, in addition to 12-13 Crores of investment, which is planned for the next two years.
Any new projects that you are coming up with in higher education?
Now we are working on Upcoming Science Centre wherein we are investing Rs 7 Crores along with Golf green and a Guest house –where an additional investment of Rs 3 crores shall be there. The construction work for Science Block has already started and for others it shall start soon in a phased out manner.
How do you think we can take our education system to a superior level?
In today’s globalized world, it is important to make learning and education a holistic experience beyond classroom academics. Keeping this in mind, the foundation has not just limited the education to the text books.VGCF has always introduced various innovations in classroom studies to give students all-round development and growth.These days, audio visual classes are one of the teaching aids used for better understanding of students. It satisfies a student’s need to see, hear, and have a complete grasp of what they are learning.
Secondly, learning of ‘learn, earn and return’is very important for students to understand. If the students have a sense of giving back to the society with their learnings, the education system will automatically reach a superior level. Scholarships are one of the important aspect of education system. Sometimes the deserving students won’t get the chance to nurture their skills and their talent ends up unexplored. VGCF provides scholarship to the deserving students, which enable them to pursue their dreams. Placement is a crucial interface between the stages of completion of academic program of the students and their entry into a professional life/environment. VGFC provides placement in Fortis, Jaypee Hospital, Max Hospital and other Government Hospitals which are nearby.
How difficult was for you to settle and succeed in the US?
As soon as I landed in USA, I knew that this was the place where I will be settled. However, the journey was not an easy one. Gradually with a lot of hard work I made slow and steady growth in my business. A time came when it became exponential and I decided to do charity. Since, education is the key to empowerment, I choose to do it in education.
How can India through education get a good repute and revenue globally?
India is well-positioned to cater to the changing requirements of the labour market in domestic and international markets due to favourable demographics and large output of higher education graduates. Globally, 3.5 billion jobs are expected to be created by 2020 and the demand for highly skilled labour is projected to outpace that for skilled workers. If more people get educated and skilled they will get chance to represent India and showcase their talent globally. Maximum global hiring will enhance the global reputation of India and will generate more revenue for India.
