The social initiative of the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee), the Anushruti Academy for the Deaf (AAD), organised an Internal Conference on the Teaching and Rehabilitation Strategies for the Deaf (TRSD 2022). The conference was held at the Biotech Auditorium in IIT Roorkee.
The conference was a two-day event from 24th to 25th of September, 2022. The conference was organised to observe the International Deaf Day, which is celebrated on 18th of September every year. Roorkee School for the Deaf, the erstwhile name of the AAD, consists mainly of faculty members.
On the importance of such an initiative, Professor Ajit K Chaturvedi, Director, IIT Roorkee, says “A small percentage of Specially Abled (Divyang) children have facilities to receive education in our country and the percentage of those receiving technical education and vocational training is even worse. Thus, it is imperative to think of various ways and means by which the Education and Vocational Training needs be planned in future.”
