Internshala Trainings, the skilling engine of Internshala, has released its Annual E-Learning Trends Report, offering a comprehensive overview of India’s evolving online education and skill development landscape. The report underscores e-learning’s role in bridging the skill gap, democratising education, and preparing India’s youth for a competitive global economy.
Over the past six years, student enrolment in online skill training programmes has risen by 67%. This shift towards practical, outcome-driven learning reflects the growing demand for skills that align with fast-paced, technology-driven industries. Web development emerged as the most sought-after skill at 13%, followed by digital marketing and aptitude training, and advanced Excel. Other popular courses included Python programming, machine learning, data science, financial modelling, and business analytics, aligning with industry trends that prioritise digital infrastructure and data-driven strategies.
The report highlights a rising emphasis on employability, with 47% of students prioritising internships and job opportunities as their primary motivation for enrolling. Additionally, 34% aimed to acquire new skills for professional growth, while 12% pursued certifications to validate their expertise. E-learning has played a crucial role in reducing geographical inequities. In 2024, 62% of learners hailed from Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, with Tier 3 contributing 40%. Metro regions such as Delhi-NCR, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad also showcased strong engagement, highlighting e-learning’s universal appeal.
Women represented 45% of learners in 2024, showcasing the accessibility of online education in fostering gender equity. Increased participation in STEM and technology courses is expected to further close the gender gap. The report also noted that 2.7% of learners transitioned to specialised training in advanced skills, while learners spent an average of 36 minutes daily on courses.
The report paints an optimistic future for e-learning in India, with platforms like Internshala Trainings at the forefront. By prioritising diversity, career readiness, and emerging technologies, e-learning is reshaping education and skill development for a competitive global stage.
