Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has announced a fee hike of up to 41% for the 2025-26 academic session. Tuition fees have risen between 16% and 41% across various courses, placing an additional financial burden on students.
A comparison of the latest academic prospectus with the previous year shows a steep increase in course fees. This comes at a time when JMI has reduced fees for students from SAARC countries and lowered tuition for foreign nationals and NRI wards enrolling in Diploma courses under the University Polytechnic.
Departments with the Highest Fee Hikes
Persian Department: Highest increase of 41.41%, with fees rising from ₹6,700 to ₹9,475 per year.

Law Courses (LLM & BA LLB Hons): Increased by 19%, with fees now ₹17,850 annually (previously ₹15,000).
With tuition fees rising across all departments, students may face financial challenges in the upcoming academic session.
New Courses & CUET Expansion
Along with the fee hike, Jamia Millia Islamia has introduced 14 new courses and expanded its use of the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for admissions.
CUET-Based Admissions: This year, 25 programmes will admit students based on CUET scores, up from 20 last year. These include 9 undergraduate, 5 postgraduate, 8 diploma, and 3 advanced diploma courses.
The significant increase in tuition fees may impact students’ ability to afford higher education at JMI. However, the introduction of new courses and CUET-based admissions may offer more academic opportunities for aspirants.
