Japanese Ambassador Hiroshi F Suzuki, in an interview with Japanese YouTuber Mayo San, extended an invitation to Indian students to study and work in Japan. During the interview, which mainly focused on Indian lifestyle, the Ambassador conveyed a special message to young Indian individuals.
He said that he has a message for Indian people, especially the youth, to consider studying and working in Japan. He suggested to obtain a visa is easy for students, he or she just have to give her student ID. He also said that he is encouraging young Indians to go to Japan for skill training and job opportunities.
According to government data, the number of Indian students in Japan for higher studies was 1,302 in 2022, compared to 1,761 in 2019, 552 in 2020, and 193 in 2021. The decrease in 2020 and 2021 may be attributed to the Covid pandemic. Nonetheless, there was a decline from 1,761 in 2019 to 1,302 in 2022.
Studying in Japan is more affordable compared to the US, the UK, or Australia. For Japanese undergraduate programs, the total enrollment fee and tuition are around ¥820,000 (Rs 5,81,600) at national universities, ¥930,000 (Rs 6,59,600) at public universities, and ¥1.1 million (Rs 7,80,100) to ¥1.64 million (Rs 11,63,100) at private universities (excluding medical, dental, and pharmaceutical schools).
Moreover, there is a reliable scholarship system and a tuition exemption/reduction system in place.
Meanwhile, the cost of living fluctuates across regions, but the average monthly expenditure for an international student is approximately ¥89,000 (Rs 63,000).
As part-time workers, foreign students can engage in employment for up to 28 hours a week. However, there are restrictions on jobs with exceptionally high hourly wages or earnings exceeding a specified monthly income limit.
