Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has been gearing up for its student union elections, slated for March 22, 2024, marking the first such elections in four years. With over 7,700 students expected to participate, the election committee, headed by Chairperson Shailendra Yadav, has been diligently preparing for the event.
According to the election schedule, candidates can file nominations starting from March 14, 2024 with the final list of candidates set to be revealed on March 16, 2024. Preceding the elections, a University Governing Body Meeting (UGBM) has been scheduled for March 20, along with a presidential debate. In terms of campaigning, a partial code of conduct has been issued by the election committee, prohibiting the use of posters or pamphlets without prior permission. This measure aims to ensure fair and orderly conduct throughout the campaigning period.
In the previous JNUSU elections held in 2019 Left student organizations like, Student Federation of India (SFI), All India Students Association (AISA), All India Students’ Federation (AISF) and Democratic Students’ Federation (DSF), clinched victory. Aishe Ghosh emerged as the JNUSU president, defeating the RSS-affiliated Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad.
