Despite each party making high-end promises to the people, the ground reality of Indian Job market is disappointing where the market continues to be on the lower side of development. With a mere unorganised job market sector increasing, the lack of quality jobs, and increasing salary-gap based on gender continues to hinder the growth of people.
As per Oxfam India’s latest report, ‘Mind the Gap – State of Employment in India’ on average women are paid 34 per cent less than their male counterparts performing the same job role.
The report particularly flags the issue of women being left out in the gamut of growth policies. A consequence of poor policy choices and implementation, the woman continues to lose jobs and leave the same positions to be filled by men.
The report says job generation was very much affected during demonetization. However, the era of post-monetization was also not much fruitful, where between Jan and Oct 2016, it was a mere 34% of households where two or more persons were employed.
The report, in the end, suggests a few policy interventions in order to make the job market more inclusive and improve people’s productivity at jobs, irrespective of gender.
