In an interview, LinkedIn India country manager Kumaresh Pattabiraman highlighted why professionals must view jobs as evolving skills rather than fixed titles. He said adaptability and embracing AI will be key to navigating an uncertain global economy and reshaping the future of work.
Working professionals need to stop identifying themselves only by job titles and instead focus on building adaptable skills that can evolve with changing times, LinkedIn India country manager Kumaresh Pattabiraman has said.
He noted that artificial intelligence is quickly reshaping what jobs look like but emphasised that it is not displacing workers at scale.
“So, as a professional today, it would be smart not to think of your job as the exact title that you have, but instead as a set of highly-adaptable, evolving skills that will help you achieve something in the workforce,” he said.
AI RESHAPING JOBS, NOT REPLACING WORKERS
According to Pattabiraman, professionals must keep an open mind and be willing to explore new careers, roles and even geographies.
He underlined that adaptability, community support and the use of AI are crucial to navigating today’s uncertain economy. “We do not see AI displacing workers at scale,” he said, while stressing that dynamic skills are emerging as the new currency of work.
LINKEDIN TOOLS TO SUPPORT JOB SEEKERS
LinkedIn has rolled out new features aimed at easing challenges faced by jobseekers.
“We have introduced Job Match, which helps jobseekers channel their energy towards jobs where they are a great fit; that way, we help them apply to jobs that they are more likely to hear back from,” Pattabiraman explained.
AI-powered coaching tools are also being offered to help young professionals prepare for high-stakes moments, including interviews, negotiations and appraisals.
INDIA AS A SIGNPOST FOR THE FUTURE OF WORK
India is LinkedIn’s second-largest and fastest-growing market, with its user base now exceeding 16 crore. At the current pace, Pattabiraman said the country could soon become the largest market for professional networking platforms.
He called India the “signpost” for the global future of work, saying, “By solving for India, we also solve for our 1.2 billion members globally.”
YOUNG WORKFORCE HAS A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY
Reflecting on changing career patterns, Pattabiraman contrasted the rigid paths encouraged by earlier generations with the freedom available to young professionals today.
“I feel, now more than ever, the young workforce entering the world of work has the opportunity to draw their own lines. It is a moment for them to think more broadly,” he said.
As economic volatility, geopolitical tensions and technological disruption reshape businesses, he stressed that resilience, continuous learning and creativity will define professional success in the AI era.
