PG Medical admission in Maharashtra is again on the radar of the Supreme Court. The apex court has been continuously monitoring the developments in the PG medical admission in the state. In a recent development, the court has said the authorities that they need to complete the admission process by June 14.
The court has said the Maharashtra government to reshuffle and hold the final counselling. The final counselling will be held for general candidates who have got admission to PG medical and dental courses. The final counselling is to be held on or before June 14.
It is also important to note that the court has put a stay on the notifications related to EWS quota for academic year 2019-20. The court has said in its decision that the notification for the admission has been issued before the EWS quota came into force.
Since, the admission process has already been started, the EWS quota cannot be enforced in between the admission. After the stay order on EWS quota, the court has now ordered the government to complete the counselling by 14 June. The decision of the court has come through a vacation bench comprising Justice Indu Malhotra and MR Shah. The jury directed the state government to complete the final round of counselling on the basis of merit.
In its order, the court said, “No application and petition in connection with the admission in PG medical courses in the state, for this current academic year, can be entertained by any other court. You are the author of this problem. It is very improper, meritorious students cannot be thrown out of the window like this… fresh counselling is mandatory. The state must adopt a fair process.” With this decision of the court, it has now become evident that there will be a final counselling for PG medical admission in the state. The court has strictly directed to complete the whole process by 14 June. The candidates, therefore, need to be ready for a fresh counselling soon.
