Maharashtra will establish the country’s first Artificial Intelligence university. A task force is already formed to plan and execute the project, announced Maharashtra’s Information Technology Minister Ashish Shelar.
As stated by Shelar on Saturday evening, the university will drive research and development in AI and related fields. It will serve as a center of excellence, fostering collaboration between industry, academia, and the government.
The task force comprises experts from academia, industry, and government. Its primary goal is to create an institution dedicated to AI education, research, and innovation. This initiative aligns with the BJP’s election manifesto, which emphasised technology-driven development, Shelar added.
The Information Technology department’s principal secretary will lead the task force. Members include directors from IIT Mumbai and IIM Mumbai, representatives from Google India, Mahindra Group, and L&T, as well as officials from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
The team consists of experts from the Rajiv Gandhi Science and Technology Commission and the Data Security Council of India.
Maharashtra’s Artificial Intelligence university will serve as a center of excellence, enhancing collaboration between industry, academia, and the government. The initiative aims to position the state as a global leader in AI. Furthermore, it will advance India’s technological growth, stated Shelar.
The task force has already conducted two meetings and is finalising the roadmap for the university’s establishment. The government’s decision highlights its commitment to making Maharashtra a hub for technology and innovation, the minister added.
