Showcasing the research focus of students who are in their 3rd and 4th year, the Mahindra Ecole Centrale (MEC) College of Engineering, Hyderabad organized its first Undergraduate Research symposium URS@MEC 2018.
A total of 60 posters and 12 select oral presentations were made at the symposium and the field of presentation touched various field from big data analysis to block chain technology, from metamaterials to seismic analysis and from financial modeling to micro fluidics as well as others.
The keynote addresses were delivered by Prof. V.S Raju, Former Director of IIT Delhi and Mr. Vishnu Saran, a young entrepreneur. Prof. Raju in his keynote address dwelt on ‘Challenges and opportunities for Indian Engineers’ while Mr. Vishnu Saran shared his journey through a string of startups within a short span of time and highlighted about success and failure(s) as integral part of such attempts and how the lessons learnt thereof eventually leads to success stories.
A 5 member team that included Dr. Jayasri (Lead faculty), Dr. Dilip, Dr. Prafulla, Dr. Prasad and Dr. Sayantan coordinated the symposium with the help of student volunteers.
During the event the Director of MEC delivered the presidential address and remarks were quoted by the Dean Academics & Dean Research while they highlighted on the importance of carrying out internship and research projects with conscientious efforts and dedication.
All the 60 poster presentations and 12 oral presentations were assessed by an independent jury composed of MEC faculty at whose recommendation several prizes/awards were distributed to the participating students for best oral and posters presentations as well as overall best projects.
“URS@MEC 2018 was a culmination of certain interesting research work successfully carried out by the MEC students in the form of either internships or as research project associates with faculty as mentors. These students admirably demonstrated their skills and talents so much so that our plan is to expand the scope of this symposium to include external college students as well in the future” Dr. Yajulu Medury, Director of MEC was quoted saying.
