Shraddha Kamlapurkar wanted to be a Charted Accountant and she was at it for over three years, but destiny had other plans for her, and she ended up becoming one of the most prolific Make-Up Artist in Karnataka. - Tell us about how you ended up becoming a Make-Up Artist?
Make-up has always been a part of my life ever since I was a young girl. Initially I was fond of lipsticks and then the love expanded. Few years ago, I discovered that make-up is something I love doing the most, so, I made it into a profession and the growth of this industry has only encouraged me.
- What is the scope for this as a full-time career?
Everyone’s growing need to look perfect in their wedding pictures and the prewedding shoots, I believe there’s this immense scope for this career. One can either be a freelancer, expert in bridal make-up, work at a salon, bridal boutiques, backstage make-up artist for the runway models, films and television, theatre, etc. Also, I travel in case a client has a destination wedding or similar situations.
- What are the skills required to be a Make-Up Artist?
The basic skill that I think that is required is decent drawing skills, because you cannot go wrong when you are creating some inspirational looks or even if you are drawing a simple eye liner. Most importantly, you should be interested in the field to grow and learn everything that’s trending in the make-up industry.
- How well does being a Make-Up Artist pay?
Pay is very good compared to other sectors if you have good skills and creativity. People always love to see variations in make-up and if your work stands out among others, there is nothing that can stop you.
- Any training institutes and courses you’d recommend and aspiring Make-Up Artist?
One can do a certified course in professional make-up from any institute or academy with a national or international accreditation, for example in India we have “All India Hair and Beauty Association”. For the ones who really want to learn make-up and excel in it, can actually go for Tamanna Make-up Studio and Academy in Hyderabad, which is where I went.
