The Martha Farrell Award for Excellence in Women’s Empowerment for 2019 in the Most Promising Individual category has been won by Manu Gulati, a Delhi government school teacher. Being an English teacher and a Delhi resident, she has been working with boys and girls at government schools in sensitizing them about gender neutrality and bringing a positive change in society.
She is also facilitating training programmes for beauticians, weavers, sales girls etc in Jalandhar in Punjab, Betul in Madhya Pradesh and in Baramullah in Kashmir by collaborating with America India Foundation’s ‘Market Aligned Skills Training Program’.
Manu Gulati has been instrumental in helping young girls in receiving formal school education by working as a mentor teacher with Directorate of Education.
She said that it’s an honour to receive the Martha Farrell Award. She is happy that her work to ensure equitable access to education for girls and gender sensitisation with students and parents has been recognized. She added further that she will continue to be a mentor-teacher to continue to promote holistic teaching methods that empower and instil self-confidence in girls.
