TS Singh Deo, the health minister of Chattisgarh has sought permission from the union government to allow students returning from war hit Ukraine to enroll in the Indian medical colleges after clearing a qualifyinh test.
In a letter to Mr Mansukh Mandaviya, the union health minister, he has expressed his concerns over the future of these students.
“In view of the current situation, it is uncertain when normalcy will return to Ukraine. A large number of students from Chhattisgarh and other states who are pursuing medical courses there have been returning home and are worried over their further studies. Even their parents who have spent hard-earned money on their education are concerned,” Singh Deo has stated.
He further said that the students would happily accept the offer by the government to absorb the students through a prescribed procedure he added.
Students studying abroad need to pass a qualifying exam in order to practice medicine in the country. A similar procedure should be adopted for the students returning from Ukraine as well. Seats should be increased to absorb such students qualifying the test, he added.
