A bill to bring the National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE) under the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) 2017 Act will be submitted in the Monsoon Session of the Parliament. If the bill is approved, NITIE will become IIM Mumbai.
The IIM (Amendment) Bill 2020, which recommends the inclusion of NITIE Mumbai in the IIM Act 2017 and to rename the institute as IIM Mumbai is included in the list of bills to be submitted in the Monsoon session of the parliament for consideration. The bill was prepared after considering the report of the feasibility analysis conducted by a committee appointed by the Ministry of Education.
The committee visited the institute in early 2022 for the possibility to award Mumbai its own IIM. As per an official at the university, “The committee visited the campus in February 2022 following which the report was submitted. We are hopeful that this will come through.”
The NITIE is ranked at the ninth position in the recently released NIRF Ranking which is quite an improvement from the last two years’ rank of 12.
