A new hike will be introduced soon on the fee of Mtech fee by all IITs. The hike amount will be ₹2 lakh per year after the decision by IIT councils. The following surge will be applied from the 2020 academic year.
Presently, the admission and tuition fee cost between Rs 5000 to Rs 10, 000. Now, the fee is nearly same to Btech course.

As per the council, IITs will also stop monthly stipend to Mtech researcher who get their seat through the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) exam. Direct benefit transfer and loans will support needy students. As suggested by the council, the required fund will be used for offering teaching assistantship and professional activities. The move came out in order to decrease the number of dropouts as many other professional courses like MBA hardly see any dropouts.

The council also discussed the evaluation system for faculty members to take off the weakened performers that will be reviewed in every five-and-a-half-year. In addition, a 50% fee will be payable to competent students who are interested to take the role of teaching assistants. Also, the top one percentile students could be offered a five-year fellowship for PhD programme.
The council approved, in principle, recommendations of the three-member committee constituted for suggesting reforms in the M.Tech system. The committee has recommended a uniform fee structure for the M.Tech programme in all IITs, and for charging the same fee for M.Tech, as in B.Tech programmes.” the HRD ministry said to leading press agency.
