Gurugram’s NorthCap University (NCU) has partnered with IIT Mandi and the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) to introduce a BTech in Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) with a specialisation in Semiconductor Design and Technology. This initiative aims to bolster India’s semiconductor workforce and aligns with the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) to establish the nation as a global semiconductor hub.
The industry-aligned curriculum, developed by NCU and IIT Mandi, integrates advanced theoretical knowledge with hands-on training in semiconductor design, fabrication, and testing. A major highlight of the programme is the inclusion of six intensive training modules at IIT Mandi’s state-of-the-art semiconductor labs, equipping students with practical experience in VLSI design, chip fabrication, and semiconductor testing.
Following a hybrid learning model, the programme features specialised courses delivered by IIT Mandi faculty, while NSDC facilitates industry internships, skill development funding, and career opportunities to ensure graduates are industry-ready. Additionally, students will receive certifications from IIT Mandi, and earned credits will be transferable to NCU, enhancing their academic credentials.
Prof. Nupur Prakash, Vice-Chancellor of NCU, stated, “This programme is not just about technical expertise—it is about empowering the next generation of engineers to drive India’s ambitions in semiconductor self-reliance and global leadership.”
With India’s semiconductor industry projected to surpass $100 billion by 2030, this collaboration positions Indian talent at the forefront of global semiconductor innovation.
