Addressing the first convocation ceremony of Dr. Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University at Pusa (Samastipur, Bihar), President of India, Ram Nath Kovind emphasized the need to modernize agriculture to face the emerging challenges both on the climate and productivity fronts.
President Kovind presented gold medals to 33 students and 478 students of Ph.D, M.Ph.D.nd under-graduate courses were awarded degrees at the convocation.
Praising the initiatives by the university, President Kovind said, “The University has made significant ant contribution in boosting crop production in Bihar, which is contributing to better the condition of farmers. It is all because of the work you all have done. Maize production in Bihar has increased due to a new breed developed here.”
He further underlined the problems of water and land shortage and called for modernization of farming practices. “The demand of today is to make agriculture modern. A number of schemes are running at the centre and state level with this objective in mind. There are sincere efforts being made through digitalization to ensure that the farmers got the right price for their produce. Neem-coated urea has helped farmers,” said President Kovind.
