On the occasion of Teacher’s Day, President Droupadi Murmu will present the National Teachers’ Award 2024 today to honour the exceptional contributions of teachers. The awards will be conferred to 82 selected recipients at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. National Teachers’ Day, observed annually on September 5, marks the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.
According to the official notification from the Ministry of Education, the award recognises teachers who, through their dedication and commitment, have enhanced the quality of education and positively impacted their students’ lives. The awardees were chosen through a rigorous, transparent, and online three-stage selection process.
The 50 selected teachers come from 28 states, 3 Union Territories, and 6 organisations. Among them, 34 are male, 16 are female, 2 are differently abled, and 1 works with Children With Special Needs (CWSN). Additionally, 16 teachers from the Department of Higher Education and 16 from the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship will also be honoured.
Each award includes a certificate of merit, a cash prize of Rs 50,000, and a silver medal. Additionally, the recipients will have the opportunity to meet and interact with the Prime Minister.
The Ministry of Education previously released a list of 16 teachers selected for the award from Polytechnics, State Universities, and Central Higher Education Institutions. The selection was based on several criteria, including Teaching Learning Effectiveness, Outreach Activities, Research and Innovation, Sponsored Research, and Faculty Development Programs. Among these, teaching effectiveness and outreach activities held the greatest weight in the selection process.
