Professor Bhaskar Gupta has been appointed as the new Vice Chancellor of Jadavpur University (JU) by the Hon’ble West Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose. This appointment follows the recommendation of the state government, which submitted a list of VCs for six state universities, including JU, which had been without leadership since April 2023, after the conclusion of the permanent VCs’ extended tenures. On 22 April 2024, the Governor, who serves as the Chancellor of state-run universities, appointed Prof. Gupta as the Vice-Chancellor of Jadavpur University.
This decision was welcomed by the West Bengal Education Minister Bratya Basu, who expressed hope for similar appointments across other universities as well. The Jadavpur University Teachers’ Association (JUTA) also welcomed the appointment.
