” I have always imagined that Paradise will be some kind of Library”- Jorge Lius
Reading may be simply defined as ” The action or skill of going through written or printed article Silently or Aloud “. Out of many activities we do, i have found Reading habit giving the most pleasure among all! Reading may be anything, a course book,a newspaper, a story book, religious book etc. It gives utmost satisfaction to mind and heart. Reading gives us a bundle of knowledge. It is actually, a magical process. When we go through the lines and explore through it, the meaning opens up a fascinating world before us, a world never known to us before. We enjoy it immensely. Let us discuss through the numerous benefits of the reading.
Firstly, It has not got any kind of age-bar. However young or old we may become, but reading could be always be continued. Other activities like dancing, singing, playing can’t be performed as efficient as earlier, as we grow old. But, reading always cherishes. The efficiency with the reading rarely diminishes. Secondly, Reading improves the concentration. It gives power to concentrate just on one thing. Reading is a kind of meditation. As we know, that proper meditation gives inner strength and peace, similar is the reading. It opens a new door for insight. Thirdly, Reading builds up the confidence levels. After reading on particular subject, one develops a deep knowledge and a command over it. We feel quiet confident to explain the same to others. Lastly, Reading in mind, never could create any kind of disturbance to others. Just sitting silently on your favorite reading place,& turning up the pages could be a sheer joy.
Due to all the above benefits one should always try to inculcate the habit of reading more & more. No entertainment is more cheap as reading nor any pleasure is so lasting. But it is a matter of great sorrow that, there has been a big decline among number of readers. I would here like to quote a real time example, which happened with my cousin. As a new teacher she entered the class 5th. It has been a general trend to take, Introduction of every student. The class consisted of total 50 students but, none of them told reading as their hobby. She was astonished to find it out and shared her experience with me. Then, this encouraged me up to throw some light on this topic. An interaction with the Book sellers has also revealed that, People have started showing little less inclination towards the Books. Even the amount of rush at Book fairs clearly out castes, the ‘Dearth of Readers’. The number people visiting the book fair is considerably less than, the same people attending funfairs etc. Technology is one of the reason for it. Undoubtedly, technology has grown by Leaps and Bounds and far from the expectations of human imagination. We have become Tech-savvy and are attracted towards these technologies. The time the people used to spend time in reading, has now been replaced with, playing video games, using social networking sites like facebook, chatting over internet etc. We cannot deny its importance but only point is that, the Legacy of Reading habit should not be left behind.
A change in this regard is needed. Parents and the Teachers can play a major role in developing this habit of reading from childhood itself. ‘ Massive Thrust’ should be given to it. Another measure which could prove fruitful is that, Each family should include at least some share of their monthly budget for buying useful books, magazines etc. Thirdly, The habit of ‘Book-Sharing’ would also spur on to Read. The books which we have already gone through could be shared with others. Such flow and exchange would keep this habit alive. These tips would persuade more and more people towards the books naturally. One who already has Reading habit, is not less than any blessing. The joy in reading is already known by them. But if you are one among those, who did not pay attention to the wonders of reading, then give it a try. The effects are great!!
